Group 7: "Wikis"

Working together using this wiki

Think of this wiki as a shared online whiteboard. Your entire group can share information using this wiki, making your research accessible to everyone. Play around with this wiki: Notice how you can add comments to a page, see what people have changed, and edit all the text.

Online Resources

  1. The PB Wiki Educator Page and PB Wiki Educator Video Page is a good place to start learning about wikis
  2. CCSD Wiki background page has links and resources to learn about wikis
  3. My del.icio.us wiki section has lots of links to wiki examples and definitions
  4. \"Which Wiki is Right for You\"  introduces users to some of the most popular wiki sites online. There's also a Wiki Matrix to compare features

The Big Question

1. What is a wiki? A web-based information depository that is interactive, editable and collaborative.

2. How can teachers use a wiki to engage students? Give several examples.  Scavenger Hunts, Collaborative groups, editing other wikis, publishing research findings, groups can be from different classes, locations, etc.,

3. Which wiki(s) would you recommend to teachers and why?  We have not used any specific wikis so we are unable to recommend any at this time.  The Wiki matrix is a good way to compare features.
